Alpha prototype · invite only

Play a movie that films itself around you.

Describe a game in a paragraph. Dream writes the world, paints the cast, and films the movie live, one scene per decision. Type or say what you do next and the next scene is shot for you. Every session is recorded and shown here.

How it works

Three steps between a paragraph and a film.

Nothing here is modelled, textured or animated in advance. The world is a document, the cast is a set of paintings, and the film is rendered live from both.

01 · Describe

Say what game it is

The kind of game, how it plays, how it looks, what it should feel like. A few sentences is plenty; references help.

02 · Dream

The studio writes the bible

An agent writes the world, the rules and two to four characters with repeatable looks, paints a reference image for each, and composes the opening shot.

03 · Play

Direct the movie live

A realtime video director films short clips and keeps the cast and places consistent. Every clip, you decide what happens next. Your move is law.

Two kinds of dream

A film with a rulebook, or a game wearing a film.

Rendered frame from a dream

Dream

Movie only. The bible and your moves are all the state there is; a second model turns each move into the next scene. Fast to make, loose with facts.

  • Bible, cast and opening shot in minutes
  • Type or speak your moves
  • Continue from the last frame when a session ends
Rendered frame from a super dream: two trainers and their creatures in a bright arena

Super dream

A real Godot game with placeholder shapes keeps the state and the rules. You play it; the director films it from the game's own description of each shot.

  • Real mechanics, positions, win and lose
  • A wireframe layer shows how far the film trails your controls
  • Online multiplayer, one player hosting
Alpha notes

What it does badly today.

This is a prototype, built in public on the vbgnt studio. It is invite-only because every second of film is metered. The gallery exists so you can judge it without paying for it.

LatencyA move lands on the next clip, and clips take seconds to arrive. You learn to direct slightly ahead.
ChaptersA session stops after about two minutes and continues from the last frame with a recap, so a story arrives in pieces.
MemoryA plain dream has no world state, only the last few beats. Super dreams are the first fix, and they are new.
ConsistencyThe bible says the coat is burgundy. The film mostly agrees.

The longer version, with what comes next: Alpha notes: where games go when the renderer is a director.
